Larch Park is located in one of Edmonton's most beautiful natural environments. To the east it borders Larch Sanctuary, over 70 acres of protected forest. Mactaggart Sanctuary is just south of the community. To the west are Rabbit Hill and Magrath Parks.
In keeping with these natural surroundings, the landscaping of Larch Park is natural. As the developer, we are planting all the boulevard islands with local trees and bushes to attract birds. We are working together with builders to ensure the landscaping of each home site respects adjacent lots, the existing 100-year-old tree row and nearby forests. The stormwater containment pond is designed so nature will gradually take over and the space will flourish on its own.
We encourage homeowners to follow our example. To help you make successful natural plant choices, we've prepared a useful reference you can download here:
Larch Park Landscape Guidelines
You'll discover in the Guidelines that Canadians have forgotten many beautiful species, plants that thrive in our climate of cold winters and dry summers. There are native or indigenous alternatives to commonly-used ornamental trees, shrubs and flowers. And many advantages to choosing them, including a welcoming, low-maintenance yard. Plus, you'll feel good knowing you are sustaining Alberta's wonderful natural biodiversity.
Natural landscaping is one of the many reasons Larch Park will be such as inspiring place to live.
